Entry regulations
An official passport is essential for entry into Austria.
An official picture ID is sufficient for EU citizens and a few other countries, and in exceptional cases a passport with a maximum expiration date of 5 years.
No visa is required from citizens of Austria’s neighbouring countries which are EU members, as well as numerous other countries. The Austrian Embassy and Austrian Consulate in the respective countries provide information.

Custom regulations
If entry into Austria is through a country within the EU, then there will be generally no further custom controls carried out, however random checks could occur anytime.
Duty-free shopping is no longer possible with direct flights within the EU.
